Program & Plan Changes

Requesting Program & Plan Changes

Undergraduate students at the Lawrence campus may submit requests to change their school, major, minor, and/or certificate through the online forms outlined below. Students are strongly encouraged to review the following information prior to submitting any changes to their student record:

  • Deadlines: The deadline for making changes to your program/plan for the current term is the 20th day (Census Day) of the Fall and Spring semesters, which can be found on the academic calendar. All changes made after the 20th day will be future dated to the next term.
  • Impact on Tuition & Fees: Your major/minor/certificate impacts your tuition and fees and is locked in after the 20th day for the purpose of tuition and fee assessment for the current term.
  • Catalog Year: You are required to follow one catalog year, which means if you choose to declare a plan that falls into a future catalog year, then all of your major(s), minor(s), and/or certificate(s) will be adjusted to the new catalog year degree requirements. Learn more about the impacts of changing your catalog year.

Change of School

Students who are applying to the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences or one the following Schools: Arts, Architecture & Design, Business, Education & Human Sciences, Engineering, Journalism & Mass Communications, Music, Professional Studies, or Social Welfare may complete the Change of School form

If students wish to apply to the School of Pharmacy, they may find more information on admission requirements and apply on their website

Change of Major/Minor/Certificate

Students can use this form to add or drop a major, minor, and/or certificate within their current school or college. If a student plans to opt forward to a future catalog year when adjusting their degree plan, they may use the form to indicate this change. Prior to submitting these changes, please note that this will change all degree requirements to the new catalog year and potentially change general education requirements:

  • Incoming Fall 2024 students will follow the 2024-2025 catalog year, which includes the KU Core 34 general education requirements.
  • Students who follow the 2023-2024 catalog year and prior are assigned the KU Core general education requirements. Opting forward to a future catalog year will change their general education requirements from the KU Core to KU Core 34

Before Requesting Changes:

  • Review the academic catalog to determine how your degree requirements will change. Incoming freshman students for Fall 2024 follow the KU Core 34 general education requirements.
